Does Barack Obama actually get Social Networking/web2.0? He appears to have dumped Twitter

It’s true that the honeymoon doesn’t last long in politics anymore. It’s started to be spotted that Barack Obama hasn’t used Twitter since winning the US Presidential Election. Now, I doubt anyone actually thought that it was BO himself sending the messages, but it does show one thing about web2.0 interaction: once you start, you really have to continue or at least direct people to another place to keep it going because otherwise people start to lose confidence in your message and what – if anything – you were trying to sell them.

Otherwise people are just going to feel that Twitter was used because it was seen as a way of getting in touch with an audience (d’uh) and that could lead to some thinking Obama’s just like the rest of the politicians and just uses people/issues/platforms as needed and then dumps them after – and if he can do it with Twitter, what about other issues?

If the plan was to just use Twitter in the build-up, then the last post should have been to direct people to sites like Change.gov.

Only time will tell though. It may just be a temporary blip. Let’s be honest, the staff deserve a few days off…
